Family, or famiglia, is at the core of who we are and what we do here at Mamma Mangia. We believe family is about connection – and includes all the people we love, support, and do life with.
We are proud to share our family recipes, stories, and culture in the hope that you will be inspired to remember, cherish, and create your own family legacy and tradition.
The Cookbook that Started it All
Several years ago, we – Solae’ and Silvana – began compiling our family recipes in a cookbook so we would have everything in one convenient place. What began as a recipe project soon blossomed into a beautiful story of history, genealogy, and culture. We realized the powerful role food played in connecting our family through generations.
Mamma Mangia was born from our desire to share our stories – through food, recipes, and tradition – and inspire others to step into the kitchen and create their own stories. We’re home cooks, we’ve never been professionally trained, and we believe in the power of time-honored techniques and recipes. Our food isn’t fancy, but it’s all made with love.
In our family, we love hard. We always hope you’ll leave with a full belly and an even fuller heart.

So how did we get here? Well, it all started about 5 years ago. I was cooking and called my mom for the 27th time to ask her something about the recipe. I got thinking that one day I wouldn’t be able to call her to ask these questions. Very few of our family recipes were written down and the ones that were weren’t 100% accurate. I got thinking about my children and future children…about the recipes and memories that would eventually fade away with time. Soon, Mamma Mangia was born!
This blog is not just a collection of recipes, it's a collection of culture, history, and pasta magic. Through our stories, we hope and pray that you begin to think of your family's story and legacy.
Meet The Mamma Mangia Family
Mamma Silvana
Talented Cook and the Heart & Soul of Our Family
Mamma Mangia wouldn’t exist without Silvana, our own Mamma. She loves hard, instantly turns strangers into friends, and is the brilliant creator of most of our recipes.
Silvana was born in Sicily and brings her authentic Italian experience to our kitchen. She had a dream of opening a restaurant, but instead chose to raise 10 loud, adorable, Italian children. Mamma Mangia gives her the chance to live out her dreams of serving up hearty, soulful Italian meals and creating connections around the dinner table.
The recipes Silvana creates are special because the flavors, textures, and ingredients are from her own family history—she moved to America without support and found her way through cooking, sharing, and loving others.
Solae'
Talented Cook and The Organizing Force Behind Mamma Mangia
Solae' is deeply passionate about her Italian heritage and the power of food to connect individuals and families. She has spent her entire life cooking under her talented mother and perfecting her family recipes. She continues her family legacy cooking and creating new recipes just like Mamma Silvana.
As a second generation immigrant, Solae' understands the feeling of wanting to know who you are and where you come from. Solae' and Mamma Silvana share their passion and connection to their roots through family, food, stories, and sarcasm, with a healthy dose of Italian sass.
Solae' – with the help of her entrepreneurial husband – manages social media, affiliate relationships, cookbooks, recipes, cutting boards and the shop.
Doug
The Original Cutting Board Craftsman
Doug is the original designer and creator behind the beautiful Mamma Mangia cutting boards. Though he has passed the baton to another family member who can now produce these boards on a large scale, Doug remains a legend in the Mamma Mangia family.
Doug has always had a love and a talent for fixing and figuring things out which made him the perfect person to create a non-toxic cutting board, using all natural products. Together with Solae’ they set to work figuring out how to do just that.
The non-toxic cutting boards were a huge success and sold out immediately. Eventually, due to high demand they decided to outsource and produce the boards on a larger scale. Doug is now “retired” but still offers his skills and knowledge from time to time.
