For the longest time I had no idea that most Americans add things like mayo, mustard, pickles, etc. to their hoagies. In our house, when my Mamma Silvana said she was making hoagies we all knew that meant:
-olive oil
-oregano
-meat
-cheese
It’s very basic and simple but it is SO delicious! We love to make our Italian bread with the sesame seeds and shape them into small baguettes and use them for our hoagies.
We are sharing this recipe today but there’s no measurements. Everyone likes it a little different so add more or less of each ingredient to your liking.
Italian Hoagies
Course: Lunch, DinnerDifficulty: EasyIngredients
Italian bread of choice
Olive oil
Dry oregano
Meat- we prefer mortadella, salami, and/or capocollo
Cheese- we prefer provolone or mozzarella
Greens- arugula, romaine, or spinach
Directions
- Cut bread in half lengthwise
- Drizzle a generous amount of olive oil on each half of the bread. Sprinkle oregano on each side and close your sandwich to more equally distribute the oil and oregano to both slices of bread.
- Open the sandwich and layer meat, cheese, and greens.
- Place the top on the sandwich and serve.
